Grade 4 & 5 SnowPass update The Canadian Ski Council would like to thank all of the ski areas who participated in last season’s Grade 4 & 5 SnowPass program. With the tremendous support of the 151 participating ski areas, the CSC was able to successfully introduce the Grade 4’s to the SnowPass program. With winter being right around the corner, the CSC team has begun working on the SnowPass program for this upcoming winter season. We have currently received responses from 145 ski areas wishing to participate in the 2009/10 winter season. If your ski area has not sent in your pledge form yet please ensure to get it in as soon as you can so that you do not miss out on being mentioned in the application brochure that will be printed shortly. The planning for the 13thseason of the SnowPass program is still in the works but currently the CSC has been approached by the ASSQ about the possibility of a Smart Card being available for Eastern Canada for the 2009/10 season. At this time this information is still being considered for implementation for the 2009/10 season. We will have more details in the next few weeks. Resorts of the Canadian Rockies lifts blackout dates on Grade 4 & 5 SnowPass coupons for 2009/10 season RCR Resorts are excited to continue their efforts to fight childhood inactivity and obesity by once again participating in the Canadian Ski Council’s Grade 4 & 5 SnowPass program. New this year, RCR will be providing all Grade 4/5 up to three (3) free ski lift tickets that will be valid at anytime during the 09/10 season. This is the first year that Resorts of the Canadian Rockies has lifted their black out dates on their SnowPass coupons. The Canadian Ski Council is very pleased about this and believes that this will help to encourage more 9 and 10 year old children to apply for a Grade 4 & 5 snowPass. Discover Skiing and Snowboarding The CSC is happy to announce that this ever present program in the ski and snowboard industry will continue its long history of assisting newcomers to learn and enjoy our wonderful winter sports! So far this year we have received 115 ski areas who have pledged to continue to support this program through offering special packages dedicated to providing a great price on lessons, lift/trail passes and equipment rentals. As this is a national program we would like to ask for ski areas assistance on keeping this program identifiable to the general public by either advertising your packages as Discover Skiing and Snowboarding or even having a link or logo button installed on your ski area’s consumer website. Another way to promote that you are a Discover ski/snowboard area is to make sure that you send back the Discover Ski and Snowboard questionnaire that will be sent out late September or early October as this information will be posted on the CSC’s website www.skicanada.orgto direct newcomers to your ski area. National Learn to Ski and Snowboard Week changes to National Ski and Snowboard Safety Day! Join all of Canada in participating in our first ever National Ski and Snowboard Safety Day! Show your community your commitment to keeping them safe on the hills and trails by joining us in December, 2009 (date TBA). Sign up to host an event your ski area will not forget while keeping your patrons safe! Some example of events your ski area can host!

The Council feels that the look is outdated and it will be beneficial to the industry as a whole to have a more modern and consumer friendly website. The new site will help make it easier for both the consumer and industry representatives to navigate their way to the information pertaining to them. To help with the cost of the new site, the CSC will continue to explore advertising opportunities from various companies and Canadian ski resorts.
