Whistler Cup Announces Mackenzie Investments As The New Title Sponsor For 2015

Whistler, March 23, 2015: Whistler Cup organizers announced today that Mackenzie Investments, one of Canada’s largest investment management companies, is the new title sponsor of the renowned international youth ski race.

This year’s Mackenzie Investments Whistler Cup will welcome hundreds of young ski racers from around the world.  The action starts on April 3rd, 2015, in Whistler, British Columbia.

“We are so pleased to have Mackenzie Investments join us for this year’s race. This event is critical to the development of Alpine Ski racing in Canada,” said Wayne Holm, Chairman of the Whistler Cup.  “Every year 300 young Canadians get to watch – and also race – against the world’s best in their age group. From seeing comes dreaming and believing. We thank Mackenzie Investments for keeping the dream alive.”

Title sponsorship of the Whistler Cup is an extension of Mackenzie Investments’ long-term support of amateur skiing in Canada, including sponsorship of seven premier national snow sport organizations involving Alpine Canada Alpin, Biathlon Canada, Canada Snowboard, Canadian Freestyle Ski Association, Cross Country Canada, Nordic Combined Canada and Ski Jumping Canada. Mackenzie Investments is also official sponsor of three-time Olympic downhill racer Manny Osborne-Paradis.

“Mackenzie Investments admires the dedication of these young athletes and wants to help nurture their growth as top competitors,” said Jeff Carney, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mackenzie Investments. “Canadians love our snow sports and at Mackenzie we are so proud to support athletes who strive to be the best.”

Max Meier, the parent of a young Whistler ski racer created the Whistler Cup.  Meier and the Whistler Mountain Ski Club Program Director, Joze Sparovec, were inspired to bring an international juvenile ski race to Canada after attending the famed “Trofeo Topolino” in Italy.  With the help of the third founder, Jim Yeates, the inaugural Whistler Cup was held in 1993 and has grown in stature and influence. This year’s race celebrates 23 years of successful international ski racing at Whistler Blackcomb and Whistler Mountain Ski Club.
