Canadian Skiers and Snowboarders Increasing Helmet Usage

The Canadian Ski Council’s (CSC) latest research shows that 83.1% of Canadian skiers and snowboarders now wear helmets on a regular basis when they are skiing and snowboarding. The survey results are compiled from a recent online survey conducted with Canadian skiers and snowboarders, with a sample of over 6,600 surveys. Previous research results from the annual 2010/11 National Consumer Profile and Satisfaction survey had shown that helmet usage among all skiers and boarders was 74.7%, and prior to that, 67.3% in 2006/07. Patrick Arkeveld, President and CEO of the Canadian Ski Council stated that “This remarkable increase in helmet usage reflects the efforts of the Canadian ski and snowboard industry and other stakeholders to educate skiers and boarders about the benefits and the limitations of helmet usage.”

Results from the 2011/11 Grade 4 & 5 SnowPass follow up survey also show that 98% of participating children now wear helmets.  Information from the 2012/13 National Consumer Survey will be available in June, 2013.
