A RECORD SEASON FOR LE MASSIF

The cold weather and disappointing levels of snow accumulation this past winter did not deter skiers from enjoying their favourite snowsports at Le Massif of Petite-Rivière-Saint-François. This year, Le Massif closed its doors with the longest season in its history and a 25% increase in skier visits compared to last year.

From December 6th, 2002 to April 21st of this year, skiers, snowboarders, and telemarkers enjoyed 137 days of operation of this Charlevoix ski area. The new owner of the station, Daniel Gauthier is very optimistic about his first season at Le Massif, “It’s been 10 years since we’ve had such poor snowfall. Thankfully, our snowmaking equipment was able to compensate for Mother Nature’s stinginess and we were able to open early in the season despite the lack of snow. And as soon as the cold weather hits next season, we’ll be ready with our snow guns to kick off another terrific season.”

General Manager of the ski area, Daniel Rochon is very satisfied with the 2002-03 season. “The Christmas holiday season was exceptional. Compared to last year with a season opener of December 27th, we tripled the number of skiers on our slopes. This demonstrates the enthusiasm that snowsports enthusiasts have for our product.”

Mr. Rochon is also excited about the growing notoriety of Le Massif beyond the borders of Quebec. “This rise in popularity is confirmed with an increase of approximately 35% of skier visits from Ontario and the United States as well as a significant increase in the number of Carte Blanche ticket sales.”

Daniel Gauthier and his team will unveil the Le Massif’s development project in the spring of 2004. Until then, team members will work on improving current infrastructures and the preparation for an even more exciting 2003-04 season. The management of Le Massif would like to thank patrons, staff, and partners of Le Massif, all whom contributed to the success of the season.
