Banff

Blue skies, low temperatures and high anticipation. The Lake Louise Alpine Ski World Cup is here! November 30 – December 8 will see top ski racers from around the world descend on the Banff’s Lake Louise Ski Resort to compete for the coveted World Cup ski racing title.

A one-of-a-kind event in Canada, the Lake Louise WinterStart World Cup is broadcasted to a global audience in excess of 184 million. It is one of a few select venues that hosts both the men’s and ladies speed events on the World Cup circuit.

Everyone is welcome to attend and watch live as the action happens. The fan cheering section in the finish area is free, family friendly and is open to both skiers and non-skiers. So bring those cow bells and cheer on your national team!

The World Cup kicks off the WinterStart Festival which celebrates everything that’s wonderful about winter in Banff-Lake Louise. The early season celebrations include World Cup Ski Racing and the World Cup Snowboard Cross at the Lake Louise Ski Resort (December 20 – 21) as well as the Santa Claus parade of lights, marshmallow roasting, fire pits and more.

The Lake Louise Ski Resort was recently voted Canada’s Best Ski Resort in the World Ski Awards. It seems only fitting to be home to these World Cup events.

This week also saw Sunshine Village recognized by the Canadian Tourism Commission for its unique Historical Snowshoe and Fondue Tour. It is the latest tourism business to be accepted into the CTC’s Signature Experiences Collection, one which provides travelers a glimpse of the regions storied past while offering up distinctively Canadian vistas.
