Big White homecoming

BC’s Big White Ski Resort will host a homecoming for Olympic skier and silver medallist Kelsey Serwa on  March 22, 2014.

Formerly the “Big Whites at Big White” annual wine evening, the event will now celebrate Serwa’s Olympic silver, and will also serve as a fundraiser supporting the Big White Racers Ski Club. Serwa is a Big White Racer alumni and graduate of their Nancy Greene program.

The Big White Spring Wine Gala is on March 22, 2014 and combines British Columbia’s finest white wines with the culinary talents of Big White’s local chefs. This year there will also be a live auction, late night dancing, and a delectable dessert bar – all in support of the Big White Racers.

“The Big White Racers aim to provide quality alpine racing programs that provide development opportunities for young skiers of varying economic status,” explains Michael Ballingall, Senior Vice President at Big White Ski Resort. “We’re hoping that the spring gala event will raise awareness about what the club offers and also raises some much needed funds.”

The event features primarily white wines; however there are always a few red options and even some ice wine to try. This year, the big whites represented will include wines from Peller Estates, Ex Nihilo, Gray Monk and Township 7 – to name a few. The live auction prizes include a week stay on the beautiful Greek island of Santorini, a VIP winter wonderland dinner for seven at Big White, and a ski date with former Canadian World Cup Team member Edith Rozsa.

“Our aim with the Big White Ski Racers is to keep registration fees affordable for all kids that have dreams to one day be an Olympian like Kelsey,” said Catherine Martin, President of the Big White Racers Ski Club. “The only way to reach our goals is through aggressive fundraising so we are very grateful that Big White Ski Resort has partnered with us for their Spring Wine Gala Event. The funds will go towards making registration more affordable, hiring outstanding, attracting experienced coaches and providing the correct equipment to keep kids safe.”

The wine tasting and food samples take place from 7-9pm, and then the live auction, dancing and dessert bar will continue the night from 9pm until midnight all in Big White’s Village Centre Mall. Tickets are priced at $75.00 per person and are available by contacting the concierge desk at concierge@bigwhite.com.
