Golden, BC, home of Kicking Horse Resort, will host two days of this unique stage race, which features a rider-built and maintained route that changes annually, and attracts thousands of mountain bike enthusiasts to Western Canada.
Singletrack 6 was born from the desire to showcase premier Western Canadian mountain bike communities. Over the last 20 years, grassroots efforts in these small communities have led to the large-scale development of trails, which in turn have generated a new source of sustainable tourism and economic development. The newly created race celebrates, promotes and supports the efforts of those building these world-class trails and the sport of mountain biking as a whole.
Joanne Sweeting, Tourism Golden Marketing Manager, is enthusiastic about the new format bike race: “Golden is excited to showcase its world-class biking trails, scenic location and superb facilities. We are especially proud to be the only town with two stops on the race and I’m confident that our mountain bike-crazy community will make competitors and visitors welcome.”
Singletrack 6 participants will experience an exceptionally varied six consecutive days of mountain biking as they navigate trails that climb to the high alpine, flow across arid desert-like landscapes and finally descend through lush rain forest. The stages will be a combination of traditional cross-country, as well as enduro and time-trial format, to best suit each location.
Riders will be treated to the very best trails in Alberta and British Columbia, while family and supporters will enjoy the festival atmosphere in each of the host communities. First-year stops take place in some of the most scenic and welcoming areas of Canada: Kananaskis, Nipika, Radium, Golden (twice) and Revelstoke.
Tourism Golden will soon launch a social media contest that will enable one lucky participant to win an entry to Singletrack 6 in July 2014. For more information, visit www.tourismgolden.com
