Calgary, Alta. (December 12, 2016) – Alpine Canada is pleased to announce that the third-annual CIBC National Ski Day will be held on Saturday, January 14th, 2017. National Ski Day unites Canadians from coast-to-coast, celebrating the power of winter sport, its accessibility to Canadians and our majestic playgrounds.

From British Columbia to Newfoundland, 17 ski resorts across the country have partnered with Alpine Canada to offer discounted lift tickets and onsite guest experiences, encouraging Canadians to get outside and explore the beauty of winter and skiing, a quintessential Canadian sport.

CIBC National Ski Day benefits Olympic and Paralympic alpine, ski cross and para-alpine athletes, with participating resorts across Canada donating proceeds from National Ski Day ticket sales back to Alpine Canada in support of our athletes’ World Cup, World Championship, Olympic and Paralympic journey.
“National Ski Day represents a true and valued partnership between Alpine Canada, the Canadian ski resort industry, and CIBC, celebrating the sport of skiing,” said Alpine Canada’s President and CEO, Mark Rubinstein. “ Skiing is in the DNA of all Canadians and Alpine Canada athletes proudly represent our country on the biggest stages of international competition. We welcome all Canadians to join us in the celebration of our great sport on January 14th”.

Whether you’re a seasoned mountain explorer or completely new to the sport, CIBC National Ski Day is the perfect family-friendly excuse to get outside this winter. With an estimated 2.5 million skiers and snowboarders in Canada and approximately 275 ski areas, it’s no wonder hitting the slopes is one of Canada’s favourite ways to brave our winters.

“I had barely started walking before I was clicked into my first pair of skis,” said Canadian Alpine Ski Team Member, Marie-Michèle Gagnon. “I would spend all winter with my family on the hill. It was always a place for us to connect as a family where we came together after a busy week. As a professional athlete, I’ve been across the globe skiing all around the world and I still believe that Canada has some of the most beautiful terrain on earth. I’m lucky to wear a maple leaf on my suit and race for this amazing country where skiing remains one of the biggest sports.”

“As CIBC and Canada celebrate our shared 150th birthday in 2017, it is with great excitement we come on board as title sponsor of CIBC National Ski Day,” says Monique Giroux, Vice President, Sponsorship Marketing & Strategic Partnerships. “We thank Alpine Canada and participating resorts for their commitment to making this sport more accessible and we encourage Canadians to join us in experiencing one of Canada’s favourite pastimes and enjoy our Canadian winter.”

“Canada is a winter country and what could be more perfect than getting families and individuals outside during winter,” said Matt Mosteller, Senior Vice President, Marketing & Resort Experience, Resorts of the Canadian Rockies. “Skiing is not only a great social sport, it’s one of the few sports the entire family can share together, providing a healthy pursuit to keep Canadians active during winter. We are proud to be founding partners of CIBC National Ski Day with Alpine Canada, and supporting getting Canadians active in winter.”
