THE CANADIAN FREESTYLE SKI ASSOCIATION

Sochi gold medallist, Alex Bilodeau, has been crowed the 2014 Air Canada Athlete of the Year Award winner after a fan vote that also included bobsleigh athlete Kaillie Humphries and curler Jennifer Jones.

“On behalf of the Canadian Freestyle Ski Association, I would like to sincerely congratulate Alex Bilodeau on receiving the 2014 Air Canada Athlete of the Year Award,” said Bruce Robinson, Chief Executive Officer, Canadian Freestyle Skiing Association. “Alex’s achievements in freestyle skiing are world-class. From being the first Canadian athlete to win Olympic gold on home soil in 2010 to repeating as gold medal champion in 2014, Alex provided Canadians with memories for a lifetime. Alex always wanted to be the best and he displayed the skill and determination to achieve it. It is fitting that he ends his career with this prestigious award.”

Bilodeau had a fantastic 2014. He defended his 2010 Olympic title by edging our compatriot Mikael Kingsbury in the mogul final in Sochi. He also captured three World Cup gold medals and finished second overall to Kingsbury.

Now retired, Bilodeau’s legendary career also included three World Championship titles.
