By the time the end of March rolls around, most ski resorts have called it quits for the season. Bragging the longest non-glaciated ski season in North America, the ski resorts in Banff National Park run operations until May long weekend! Here are our 5 reasons you need to come ski in Banff & Lake Louise this spring:

1. Ski straight onto the lift (no lines)!

Not only do you have a 10-week window in which to squeeze in that spring ski getaway, but by booking in April and May, long after most visitors have packed away their skis and boards for the season, you will be sharing the slopes with only the locals.

2. Late season specials.

To help promote late season visits, ski and stay packages offer great deals to visitor wanting to shred during April and May so get the biggest bang for your buck by choosing an off-peak visit.

3. The Best Snow Pack of the Season?!

Ask any local about the last few years of skiing and most will tell you, March and April were epic! Historically, April sees almost as much snow as February or March but you get to enjoy the dry, airy-light powder in balmier temperatures.

4. Après-Party in the Sun.

April’s warmer temperature means enjoying a pint on a patio in the sunshine becomes reality and quite possibly the best après scene imaginable. The best part: to encourage skiers and snowboarders to stick around for the après, both Lake Louise Ski Resort and Sunshine Village have live music happening on outdoor stages to set the party mood.  This has to be the best way to work on your goggle tan – soaking in the rays slope side!

5. Extended daylight hours.

In the middle of winter, the days can be short. Lifts can close as early as 3:30 or 4 o’clock, so a spring visit means you can literally ski longer. You also don’t have to do all of your sightseeing in the dark; there is still some light left after you leave the slopes. If you are ambitious, you could even squeeze in a hike, a bike ride or 9 holes of golf after a day of skiing in May– all before nightfall.
